Awesome Dart Mod | |
This is an awesome mod for almost any type of Dart. I prefer larami darts because they're the best and it simplifies the mod. But I recently discovered a way to make it work with megadarts. Here's what you need: - larami darts or megadarts - exacto knife or really sharp scissors - thin athletic tape (the cotton type, about 1/2" thick) - a set of plastic twist knobs that are used in lamps to turn them on and off - (optional) mechanical pencil refill erasers |
Ok, here it is: Take a megadart, or larami dart and carefully peal off the suction cup. For the megadart, cut it in half with an exacto knife or some really sharp scissors. Make sure you cut it so that it is flat, not a v-cut as this will affect its flight. Then, take the plastic twist knob and stick it, thin side in, into the dart. For the larami dart, it is important to stick the knob in the side that the suction cup came off of. |
Now for the optional part. If you want to soften the tip a little, place a refill eraser in the hole of the twist knob if it has one. If it doesn't then you won't have this option. |
Now for the tape. This is a very important part to the mod. Without the tape, a megadart may only fly 10 feet while the tip goes flying very far and possibly injures someone. Also, if this is done improperly, the dart will not fly straight. I have done many tests as to the lengths the tape should be, so if you follow my instructions, it will work |
Ok, here it is. This is a little hard to explain. You will need three pieces of tape per dart. Two will be the same length (fairly short) and one will be fairly long. The first two need to be long enough to cover the tip of the knob and leave about a tape's width attached to the dart. You will understand this bad wording in a minute (I hope). Now take one of the two strands of tape and center it over the knob and then press the remaining tape down so that it sticks to the dart equally on both sides. Do this with the other piece of tape making an 'X' with the other piece. |
No for the TRICKY part: Cut a piece of tape long enough to wrap around the dart 2.25 times (that's two and a quarter times). Honestly, I have no idea why you need the extra quarter but if you don't use it, the dart will NOT fly straight. Wrap this piece of tape around the tip of the foam and knob so that other two pieces of tape are completely covered except for the top. This is also important because if the other tape is not covered, it could get pulled off when you stick it in a gun. |
Now you can try it out. If it doesn't fly straight, try trimming the amount of tape wrapped around the dart. |
Sorry this is the only image I have of a modified larami dart and it's too fuzzy. But here it is anyway:
